On this day in 1994, the Discovery Channel premiered the critically-acclaimed documentary miniseries, Watergate. The five-part film, a co-production with BBC America, was the first film to offer a comprehensive look at one of Washington’s biggest scandals.

Based on the book Watergate: The Corruption and Fall of Richard Nixon, by former London Times‘ Washington correspondent, Fred Emery, and narrated by journalist Daniel Schorr, the film features interviews with key Watergate participants, including Nixon aides H.R. Haldeman and John Ehrlichman, Nixon campaign intelligence head G. Gordon Liddy, campaign deputy director Jeb Magruder and James McCord, who participated in the Watergate Hotel break-in. The film also features insights from Richard Nixon himself, via footage culled from a 1977 interview with David Frost.
