1999: ‘Oprah Winfrey Presents: Tuesdays with Morrie’ Airs on ABC

On this day in 1999, ABC presented Oprah Winfrey Presents: Tuesdays with Morrie, a telefilm version of newspaper columnist Mitch Albom’s bestselling non-fiction novel.
The film recounted Albom’s renewed relationship with his former sociology professor, Morrie Schwartz, who was dying of Lou Gehrig’s disease. The film won an Emmy for Outstanding Made for TV Movie. Its lead actors, Hank Azaria and Jack Lemmon, also took home Emmy statuettes.
