Alicia Silverstone shares sweet stories about her Clueless co-star Brittany Murphy during a reunion panel… nearly 10 years after her death

Brittany Murphy played the role of ugly duckling turned into beautiful swan, Tai Frasier, in the 1995 movie, Clueless.

And after tragically passing away in 2009 in an ‘accidental death’ from a combination of pneumonia, anemia and multiple-drug intoxication, her former cast members are now remembering the star.

Speaking during a reunion panel at the Chicago Comic, star Alicia Silverstone could only speak kind words of the actress, revealing she was ‘blown away’ by her audition.

‘I had to tell Amy [Heckerling] [writer/director] just in case she didn’t know that Brittany Murphy was the one that had to play the part, she was so good,’ she said.

She recalled: ‘I love when she says, “You’re a virgin who can’t drive”. It’s just one of my favorite moments of the whole movie. It’s just, her face scrunches up so good.’

Co-star Paul Rudd also shared his love for Brittany, adding even her off-screen personality was beautiful.

‘She was a sweet person too. She was… she was just always so smiley. And sweet.’

Tai’s on-screen love interest, Travis Birkenstock – played by Breckin Meyer, also praised the young star as well.

‘Ridiculously talented. Like, you see Tai, and then you watch 8 Mile, and you’re like, “That’s the same person?”.’

Clueless, which is loosely based on Jane Austen’s Emma, was released in 1995 and was described as a ‘sleeper hit’ due to it’s slow success.

But, the film’s theatrical run saw it gross over $ 56 million and went on to be made into a stage adaptation, as well as a book and TV series.
