This just in: All five members of the Spice Girls will reunite for a brand new movie. Yes! All five! Even VB is going to be involved. Mel Brown, Emma Bunton, Mel Chisholm, Geri Halliwell and Victoria Beckham have all signed up for an animated feature with Paramount studios. It’s in the very early stages of development and the girls are still reportedly in negotiation.

“They are very involved,” Paramount Animation president Mireille Soria told [link url=”https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/behind-screen/paramount-plans-spice-girls-movie-as-part-newly-unveiled-animation-slate-1217519″ no follow=”true”]The Hollywood Reporter[/link]. She says the Spice Girls “had an idea that we’ve been developing.” The movie will feature classic Spice Girls hits as well as brand new music from the band. According to [link url=”https://www.theguardian.com/film/2019/jun/12/spice-girls-animated-movie” no follow=”true”]The Guardian[/link], the plot involves all five girls becoming superheroes – which is truly all they deserve.

Paramount Animation has a suitably strong Girl Power vibe, too. Apparently most of their senior staff are female.

Karen McCullah and Kiwi Smith – who wrote Legally Blonde! – will write the screenplay. Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller will be producing.

We cannot wait, obviously.

It’s been a whole 20 years since Spice World the movie came out – can you believe it? When it came out in 1997, it was not exactly critically acclaimed but we all know it’s a cult classic for true fans of the band. With four fifths of the girls getting back together for their tour this year, we figure we are about due a Spice Girl blockbuster, if we’re honest.

The Spice Girls, by the way, are the biggest selling pop group of all time, with a cool 85 million albums sold.

In the meantime, here are the best chick flicks to watch with your girls while you wait with baited breath…
