Amy Schumer takes a playful dig at Hilaria Baldwin’s heritage controversy… after the yoga instructor admitted to being a ‘white girl’: ‘I get it. I went to Spain a couple times and loved it too’

Alec Baldwin’s wife Hilaria recently became the target of online backlash, after she was accused of ‘faking’ her Spanish heritage and accent.

And Amy Schumer, who has since deleted the post, used Instagram to playfully comment on the 36-year-old yoga instructor’s cultural controversy on Sunday.

‘I get it. I went to Spain a couple times and loved it too,’ captioned the comedian, 39, who included a cucumber emoji.

The portion of Schumer’s post that earned her the most praise was the cucumber emoji that she added to the end of her caption.

The emoji was a direct reference to one viral clip of Hilaria pretending not to know the ‘English word’ for cucumber, while conjuring up a recipe on a cooking show.

Emily Ratajkowski, clearly amused by Schumer’s playful dig, wrote: ‘That cucumber emoji really hits!’ The model, 29, also thanked Amy for making the post to begin with.

Along with her caption, Amy included a dramatic photo of herself wearing a large woven sunhat and a pair of oversized shades indoors.

She had one hand up by her face, while the other delicately cradled a cup of tea.

Schumer’s hilarious post came just hours after Hilaria took to her own Instagram to directly address accusations that she has spent years misrepresenting her heritage.

The claims against the star went viral on Twitter and Instagram on December 21, alongside a string of videos presented as evidence that her Spanish accent isn’t real.

Several former classmates came forward to confirm that Hilaria was in fact raised in Weston, Massachusetts, by professor parents without a hint of a foreign accent.

And, to the surprise of many, Baldwin confessed in Sunday’s Instagram video that her real name is Hillary and she was actually born in Boston, not Majorca, Spain.

‘Yes, I am a white girl. I am a white girl,’ she admitted in a rambling seven-minute video.

‘Let’s be very clear that Europe has a lot of white people in there and my family is white. Ethnically, I am a mix of many, many, many things. Culturally, I grew up with two cultures so it’s really as simple as that.’

In interviews over the years Hilaria has indicated that she moved from Spain to the US when she was 19 to attend New York University, but she stated in her Instagram video that she spent ‘some of’ her childhood in Spain and ‘some’ of it in Massachusetts, where she was born.

Hilaria shares five children, daughter Carmen Gabriela, 7; son Rafael Thomas, 5; son Leonardo Ángel, 4; son Romeo Alejandro, 2; and son Eduardo ‘Edu’ Pao Lucas, 3 months, with her husband Alec Baldwin, 62.

Schumer’s playful back-and-forth with Hilaria commenced on the exact day the wife of Alec Baldwin’s ethnic identity came into question.

Taking to Instagram last Monday, the Inside Amy Schumer star jokingly posted a lingerie-clad photo of Hilaria holding her four-month-old son Eduardo.

Pretending to be Hilaria, Amy hilariously captioned the shot: ‘Gene and I wanted to wish everyone a happy holiday season. Enjoy it with whatever family members are talking to you this year.’

Although she was not offended by Schumer’s joke, Baldwin was irked by the amount of negative comments on the post pertaining to her physique and lifestyle, which she said ‘seemed to spiral out of control’ and got ‘into a place of body-shaming.’

She said in an Instagram video that she has a sense of humor but was concerned some of the remarks didn’t reflect the body inclusivity she hopes to see in society.

Amy, who has since removed the post, apologized to Hilaria via Instagram.

But on Christmas Day, the Trainwreck actress reassumed her faux Hilaria identity and uploaded a family photo featuring the dedicated yoga instructor, Alec, and their brood.

‘Chris and I had such a beautiful day with the kids,’ joked Schumer.
