An incredible disability-friendly makeup range has launched and we have so much time for it
As makeup brands work towards a greater spectrum of skintones and embrace a gender-neutral aesthetic, the move towards inclusivity in the beauty industry is slowly but surely happening. But for some underrepresented groups, including people with disabilities, choices remain frustratingly limited.
That’s why Grace Beauty, a UK-based disability-friendly beauty brand, is breaking boundaries with a new makeup range created to improve accessibility to all.
While many of us may not have even considered that the makeup staples we use everyday – mascara, eyeliner, lipstick – cater for able-bodied users, with their debut range of products, Grace aims to simplify the process of application for anyone struggling with conventional beauty products.
"Anyone, regardless of ability, should be able to use any beauty product they want to," reads a statement on the website. "To help this cause, we’re making accessories for people with disabilities."
Grace’s debut range of products focuses exclusively on mascara wand extensions, with three different grips to make application easier for those with disabilities.
The Ring Grip features a circular ring-shaped handle to loop your finger through, allowing the user to adjust their grip without holding the wand.
Meanwhile The Square Grip attaches to both sides of the mascara, with ribbed hexagonal sleeves that fit onto both the tube and lid to make it easy to open, hold and control.
Lastly, The Safe Grip features a wide, bulbous attachment that gives a wide, angled grip and "ensures better control for all kinds of users".
Each of the three extensions are available for pre-order and will officially launch on Grace’s website on June 3.
Not a moment too soon in our opinion, because representation matters in all areas of our lives, and everyone should be able to enjoy the beauty of makeup.
