If anyone has known ups and downs, it’s Bethenny Frankel of The Real Housewives Of New York.
The socialite, 48, took to her Instagram on Saturday to mark a sad occasion: the one-year anniversary of the death of her on-again, off-again boyfriend Dennis Shields.
‘One year ago today, I woke up to a beautiful sunny day with @biggysmallz by the pool, and my world crumbled and turned upside down in an instant.
‘A man Dennis, who I loved and respected, who was in my life for 30 years unexpectedly passed away,’ she captioned a sweet photo of Shields sitting on a couch with her beloved Lhasa Apso dogs—with one of them licking Dennis’s bald head.

Frankel goes on in the post to talk about her late ex-boyfriend’s special bond with the pups, and how he was the one to come up with their names Biggy and Smallz.
‘At times, it seemed like he and they spoke the same language and they were the only ones who understood him,’ Bethenny continued.
‘He was a loving, sweet, gentle, brilliant, complicated, hilarious, creative and supportive man. He is missed terribly by so many but lives on in his friends and family and furry loved ones.’
‘I am a different person and in a different emotional place than I was a year ago, and the wounds have begun to heal but the scar will remain on my heart forever.’

‘RIP, August 10. #Unforgettable’ the reality star concluded.
The 51-year-old banker was found dead last summer in his New York City apartment after a suspected overdose.
Also on Saturday, Bethenny took to her Instagram stories to write another emotional missive, presumably to Dennis himself, in which she said ‘It’s a sad day & I can never express how grateful I am for your love <3 & wisdom in getting me through the hardest of times.’
‘You have taught me about compassion, wisdom, grief, and the power of allowing yourself to love and be loved. I am choosing to focus on that today.’

While Frankel says the pair were broken up at the time of his death, she at one point wore the engagement ring he gave her and had a ‘let’s see’ attitude about the prospect of ending up with him.
Last month, Bethenny sat with her fellow Housewives for the Season 11 RHONY reunion with Andy Cohen, during which she addressed Dennis’s passing, and teared up.
‘He’s always on my mind. He’s very missable,’ she said at the time.
‘I loved him deeply, and I don’t know if I would have been able to be in the place that I’m in now if he were still here,’ she said.
In the time since his death, Bethenny has been dating real estate developer and film producer Paul Bernon, 41.
