Celine Dion took the stage during a special live event at the Theater at the Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday (April 3) to announce her Courage World Tour as well as a new album. She made the announcement to a packed audience who was excited to see her, and hear the surprise news.

Dion’s Courage World Tour — her first global trek in a decade — will kick off in her home province with two shows at Videotron Centre in Quebec City (Sept. 18 and 20), followed by two shows in Montreal at the Bell Center (Sept. 26 and 27). Dion told the audience she planned to take a few weeks off to spend time with her family after the four shows in Quebec before heading back onto the road Oct. 16 for a concert at Ottawa’s Canadian Tire Centre.

“I’m not going on tour with my kids. They’re very mature and very independent,” Celine told the audience. “Eleven days is the longest time I’ve been away from them. And two weeks on tour will be the longest time I will be away from my children.”

Courage will be Dion’s second world tour since launching her residency 17 years ago at the Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace; her 132-show Taking Chances World Tour from 2008 was seen by more than 2.3 million fans and grossed $ 280 million. Dion holds the Billboard Boxscore record for highest-grossing residency of all time, with her New Day show that ran from 2003 to 2007 earning $ 385 million in ticket sales while her current residency has reported $ 245.5 million as of Dec. 2018. That number will likely grow — her Las Vegas residency has 28 final shows at Colosseum this summer.

Dion performed a few of her most popular songs at the event, including “I’m Alive,” “Ashes,” and “My Heart Will Go On,” which were full of vocal acrobatics. The audience gave her a standing ovation.

Towards the last half of the event, Dion went into a Q&A with the Facebook Live audience and also answered questions from fans in the audience.

The Q&A felt very intimate and personal, as some asked Dion about advice she had for their marriage, while others wanted to know what music she was listening to right now (It’s Sia, for those curious). One fan even wished Dion a happy belated birthday (March 30) and encouraged the entire audience to sing “Happy Birthday,” to her, which they happily did.

But others members of the audience wanted know more about Celine’s upcoming projects, specifically, what they could expect from the upcoming album and tour.

One fan asked her why she chose to name the album Courage and Celine gave a thoughtful response.

“I think I went through a lot. And life had given me the tools… to find my inner strength, to find courage, and to keep going,” Celine said. “The people that I love so much embraced the moments that were difficult. They gave me so much strength. And then a song came that was called “Courage,” and it didn’t take long for all of us to say, ‘I think the album should be called Courage.’”

Regarding the upcoming tour, one audience member wanted to know what to look forward to.

“It’s not gonna be the Las Vegas show. It’s gonna be the songs that I hope that you want to hear. The songs that you used to hear me sing,” Celine said. “I would like for this tour to be the most spectacular tour.”
