Emmy snubs 2020: Reese Witherspoon is left out of the race for all three of her series – The Morning Show, Little Fires Everywhere and Big Little Lies

The 72nd annual Emmy nominations were announced on Tuesday morning.

Saturday Night Live alum Leslie Jones hosted, with Inventing Anna star Laverne Cox, Central Park’s Josh Gad, Perry Mason star Tatiana Maslany and Television Academy Chairman and CEO Frank Scherma on hand to present the nominees.

And while there were many obvious choices like The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Schitt’s Creek and The Crown, there were also plenty of snubs that shocked Hollywood, most notably Reese Witherspoon for herthree   series The Morning Show, Little Fires Everywhere and Big Little Lies as well as the beloved Modern Family.

Oscar-winner Reese was not nominated for her role in the Apple+ show The Morning Show.

Instead, Jennifer Aniston was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series. Steve Carell, Mark Duplass, Billy Crudup and Martin Short were all singled out for their work on the show as well.

And Witherspoon was also not recognized for her work in Hulu’s Little Fires Everywhere.

The announcement on Tuesday was unusual as there were no reporters or publicists present at the TV academy’s Los Angeles headquarters due to social isolation and lockdown from COVID-19.

‘Where is everybody?’ jokes Jones. ‘You all tricked me! There’s nobody in here but a cameraman!’
