Jennifer Hudson has big shoes to fill as she takes on the role of the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, in a new biopic about the star.
But one thing’s for sure, the actress certainly looked the part when she filmed scenes for the movie titled Respect on Friday.
The 38-year-old star was joined by Forest Whitaker, who plays Aretha’s father C. L. Franklin as the actors strolled through Washington Square Park in New York City.

Hudson is pictured in a moss green coat with fur collar along with an olive green pillbox hat and matching kitten heels, gloves and a small purse.
The duo strolled together bundled up against the chill.
Whitaker, 58, wore a long coat, smart blue pants and a fedora.
The singer and actress fully transforms into the Queen Of Soul in the first teaser for the film released in December.
Hudson is seen in a glittering gold gown as she takes the mic and belts out ‘What you want baby I got it’ in front of an empty auditorium.

Respect also stars Marlon Wayans at Aretha’s first husband Ted White and Audra McDonald as mom Barbara Franklin.
Rounding out the ensemble are Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, Saycon Sengbloh, Hailey Kilgore, Tate Donovan, Heather Headley, Skye Dakota Turner, and Mary J. Blige.

Franklin handpicked Hudson for the role before she passed away in August 2018.
‘We were in talks a long time about me playing her,’ she added, ‘so I just hope I make her proud [and] do her justice.’
Respect is slated for release August 14 2020.
