Jennifer Hudson Has Shoe Thrown at Her on Stage, Takes It as a Compliment

Jennifer Hudson is not the first celebrity to have a show thrown at her, but she is probably one of the first to take it as a compliment.

The singer posted a video to Instagram showing her having a shoe thrown at her while singing her “Dreamgirls” hit “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” at a concert on Friday. Rather than being upset about it, however, Hudson was pleased, referencing the fact that she kicked off the whole shoe-throwing frenzy with her actions on the season premiere of “The Voice” Tuesday.

Hudson threw her own shoe on stage during contestant Chris Weaver’s blind audition, explaining, “Where I come from, that’s a compliment, and we know at times when you sing like that, you better be prepared to what? Duck.”

In her Instagram post, Hudson acknowledged that she expected to have shoes thrown at her after her stunt on “The Voice.” “I told my crew, I said lord people are going to start throwing shoes at me after ‘The Voice’ and that’s just what happened tonight!” she wrote. The shoe, however, was thrown by a member of her band rather than an audience member.

Hudson had even explained to Seth Meyers on Friday night her view of shoe-throwing. “It is a compliment. At J Hud Productions, it is a compliment,” she said. “If you move me enough that I remove my shoe to throw it at you, you have done something amazing. It is equivalent to a standing ovation.”
