Reggie Lavong, Longtime Radio Personality, Dies at 84

Longtime radio personality Reggie Lavong died Sept. 19 in Philadelphia. He was 84.

Lavong, a radio pioneer who played R&B during the 1960s in New York, died from complications of an infection, his daughter April Lavong toldThe New York Times.

In addition to being an on-air personality at numerous radio stations around the country, and co-owning WHAT in Philadelphia for a few years, Lavong also served as VP of marketing at R&B at Capitol Records beginning in 1969 and working for Island Records in the late ‘70s, according to the Times.

His diverse career also reportedly included owning a candy store, starting a limousine service, and becoming a stockbroker and financial consultant.

Lavong is survived by his four children, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
