Spider Man: Daily Bugle Website Has Never Heard Of Thanos

The Daily Bugle is at it again with breaking news that Coney Island is finally reopening its gates years after a “devastating” attack by Spider-Man during the events of Spider-Man: Homecoming. While the Bugle is quick to blame Spider-Man for the world’s woes, eagle-eyed readers might notice that the newspaper run by J. Jonah Jameson fails to mention Thanos, the big bad who recently erased half of humanity with a single snap of his purple fingers.

During the events of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Peter Parker skipped his homecoming dance to attend to a high-altitude robbery in progress. As a result of his confrontation with Adrian Toomes (Vulture), a large plane crash-landed into Coney Island. The fallout from that event wasn’t a major feature of Spider-Man: Far From Home. However, Spider-Man’s next adventure did end with an unexpected cliffhanger, courtesy of the Daily Bugle, which released a posthumous video from Mysterio/Quentin Beck, a former disgruntled employee of Tony Stark. Thanks to Beck, the Daily Bugle released Spider-Man’s true identity, unleashing the wrath of the world on one Peter Parker.

Despite the fact that Coney Island did indeed suffer immense damage during Spider-Man’s fight with Vulture, the Bugle fails to mention that Spider-Man diverted the plane in order to prevent it from crashing straight into more populated areas of the island. The latest video story from the Bugle follows a consistent, if not entirely surprising, anti-Spider Man trend from the publication. While the Bugle goes into great detail on the collateral damage caused by Spider-Man, the sheer devastation Thanos inflicted during the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame get no mention at all. After all, the fact that it took Coney Island eight long years to reopen after Spider-Man’s “attack” probably has something to do with half the world’s population disappearing into thin air. Rebuilding an iconic New York neighborhood would take an awfully long time if half of the city’s residents were snapped out of existence for five years. From that point of view, a plane crash with zero casualties is an odd focus after an alien literally wiped out half the human population. But, of course, the Daily Bugle is only focused on one villain:

Spider-Man Far From Home Peter Edith

Coney Island re-opened its historic gates today, years after a devastating attack by Spider-Man forced the park and adjacent beach to close to the public. This resilient Brooklyn neighborhood has put on a brave face after the onslaught brought on them by the webbed menace, where a plane crashed into their family amusement park one lonely night.

The Bugle may want the world to tell Spider-Man, “Bug off webhead!”, but hopefully the public will remain on the teenage web-slinger’s side. Marvel fans breathed a sigh of relief recently when Disney and Sony finally reached a new deal to keep Spider-Man and Tom Holland in the MCU following an intense fan backlash. Ironically, the Bugle may be to blame for Spider-Man staying in the MCU for years to come. After all, fans want to see the results of the big identity reveal and what that means for Parker’s future.

Although the Daily Bugle’s website is just a creative viral marketing ploy to keep fans engaged until the release of the next Spider-Man film, it is a rather interesting satirical take on sensationalist journalism. Even if most of the Earth’s citizens were armed with the full knowledge of the Avenger’s sacrifices to bring the world back in balance after the events of Avengers: Endgame, the Daily Bugle proves that fake news exists in the MCU, too. It wouldn’t be surprising if the Bugle next publishes a full-blown expose on how Spider-Man himself was responsible for half the Earth’s population disappearing. When the next Spider-Man movie finally materializes, fans may discover that it’s Peter Parker’s good name that needs avenging next.
