The Office’s Jim & Pam May Finally Split… Over The NHL Finals
Stars of NBC’s The Office, John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer, have a hockey rivalry and it’s heating up ahead of the 2019 Stanley Cup Finals Game 7. For nine seasons from 2005-2013, Krasinski and Fischer starred on the NBC sitcom as Jim Halpert and Pam Beesly, respectively. Their romantic relationship evolved from a workplace crush to getting married and having kids, and fans enjoyed watching the characters fall in love on screen. Although The Office was filled with plenty of fan-favorite characters – like Steve Carell’s Michael Scott and Rainn Wilson’s Dwight Schrute – Jim and Pam were arguably the most beloved duo on the series.
In the years since The Office concluded its nine season run, the sitcom has continued to maintain a healthy fan base, largely due to the series’ availability on Netflix. There have been rumors that The Office will leave Netflix when its current contract is up due to NBCUniversal wanting the series on their own upcoming streaming service. While the future of The Office’s streaming availability remains to be seen, two of its stars have returned to the pop culture zeitgeist as part of a friendly rivalry in the 2019 Stanley Cup Finals between Fischer’s team, the St. Louis Blues, and Krasinski’s Boston Bruins. Now ahead of the NHL championship series being decided in Game 7, Fischer posts an Office-themed image of their rivalry.
On the day of Game 7, Fischer posted an image of Jim and Pam from The Office, but in it Jim is wearing a Bruins jersey and Pam a Blues jersey. Fischer wrote, “It all comes down to tonight,” tagging Krasinski in her tweet. Game 7 will take place on June 12 at the Bruins’ home arena of TD Garden in Boston, and will air at 8pm ET on NBC. See Fischer’s tweet below.
Both Fischer and Krasinski have gotten in on the fun of their rivalry since the Blues and Bruins were confirmed for the 2019 Stanley Cup Finals. In fact, during Game 6, Fischer appeared on NBC and explained their sports rivalry dates back to their days of filming The Office, specifically the World Series between the Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals. After the Bruins won Game 6, Krasinski quote tweeted a video of Fischer with the NBC commentators joking about not inviting her to Game 7. See his tweet below.
Fellow Boston fan Carell also tweeted ahead of Game 7, though it’s simply a photo of himself wearing a Bruins hat. Check it out below.
Although fans of The Office may not necessarily be following the 2019 Stanley Cup Finals, the public rivalry between Krasinski and Fischer is no doubt entertaining for those who watched Jim and Pam’s relationship for nine years. And the rivalry between the actors is all in good fun, so there’s none of the animosity that sometimes exists between fans of rival sports teams. Certainly, even hockey fans have gotten in on the rivalry with memes and jokes on social media.
Fischer and Krasinski’s friendly rivalry is an unexpected, but pleasant side effect of this year’s Stanley Cup Finals, and fans are no doubt curious to see how each star will react depending on who wins Game 7. To see who comes out on top of this rivalry between two of the most beloved stars of The Office, fans will have to tune into the 2019 Stanley Cup Finals Game 7.
