The Women of Marvel’s X-Men Are Ready For a Reboot | ScreenRant
The women of the X-Men unite in a variant cover for Marvel’s upcoming comic book event, House of X. This month, Marvel will release House of X and Power of X, two miniseries that are expected to serve as the introduction for the next era of the X-Men.
Marvel’s Merry Mutants have gone through a number of changes to the status quo in the last few years. In 2017, the X-Men were split into two major teams with each starring in their own ongoing series, X-Men Blue and X-Men Gold. The number of color-coded X-Men teams grew to three with X-Men Red following Jean Grey’s resurrection in the beginning of 2018. Soon after, all three X-Men titles ended and were replaced with Uncanny X-Men, which featured the long-awaited return of Cyclops. Uncanny X-Men concluded last week with its 21st issue, which means another relaunch is around the corner.
Marvel Comics has released a variant cover for House of X #2. The cover shines the spotlight on some of the most powerful female characters associated with the X-Men. Featured on the cover are Jean Grey, Storm, Rogue, Kitty Pryde, Psylocke, Emma Frost, Mystique, Magik, and Dani Moonstar. Many of the X-Women are depicted in their most iconic costumes. Noticeably absent are X-23, Jubilee, Dazzler, Rachel Summers and Domino, but it’s likely that some or all of these characters may still play some sort of role in the event, considering how wide-reaching the story is expected to be for the X-Men.
What House of X and Powers of X are actually about is something that’s largely being kept under wraps, though it is known that it will have massive ramifications for mutants in the Marvel Universe. House of X writer Jonathan Hickman has teased that the series will contain “the most important scene in the history of Marvel Comics“. One theory is that it will lead into a reboot of sorts, since several prominent X-Men characters have been recently killed off. However, this hasn’t been confirmed.
The solicits for House of X #2 reveals that the comic will deal with “the truth about one of the X-Men’s closest allies“, which is somehow connected to “the fight for the future of mutantkind“. Based on the positioning of the heroines on the cover and a recent storyline in Uncanny X-Men, the character in question could be Emma Frost. Frost already saved mutantkind once this month, so it will be interesting to see how she and the other X-Women will fit into Marvel’s next big X-Men event.
House of X #2 goes on sale in August from Marvel Comics.
