These Marvel Characters All Wore The Infinity Gauntlet
With Avengers: Endgame now out in theaters, here’s some comic characters who have previously worn the Infinity Gauntlet on the page. First created in 1990, the Infinity Gauntlet is one of the most powerful weapons in all of Marvel Comics. The glove is designed to hold all six Infinity Stones (or Infinity Gems as they were originally called) and grants whoever wears the full gauntlet an incredible amount of power.
The Infinity Gauntlet has been part of some major comic storylines in the past, but people around the world have learned much more about it thanks to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This was especially the case in Avengers: Infinity War, where Thanos (Josh Brolin) filled his Infinity Gauntlet with all six Infinity Stones. Once he had this power, he snapped his fingers and wiped out half of all life across the universe. Ever since then, fans of the MCU have been wondering who could possibly be strong enough to do the same in Avengers: Endgame.
Since these movies are loosely based on the comics, Screen Rant’s latest video takes a look back at the history of Marvel to point out several characters who have had the ability to wear the Infinity Gauntlet. Not all of them are part of the MCU already, so many of them won’t actually be able to wield it in Avengers: Endgame – if anyone else puts it on at all. You can see the full list of characters in the video at the top of this post.
If fans are looking to the comics to see who could wear the Infinity Gauntlet in Avengers: Endgame, then there are several mentioned here that can immediately be eliminated. Characters like Doctor Doom, Silver Surfer, and Mister Fantastic are not part of the MCU yet since Fox previously has had control of their theatrical rights and will not be making appearances in Avengers: Endgame, much less wear the gauntlet. Norman Osborn aka Green Goblin has also not been introduced, so we can cross him off the list, and the same is true for Adam Warlock/Magus. And barring some major surprises, Santa Claus, DC’s Darkseid, and the telepathic dog Lockjaw from Inhumans will not be involved either.
There may be comic precedence for newer MCU stars like Spider-Man and Black Panther to wear the Infinity Gauntlet, but both of them are currently dusted and would likely need someone else to use the glove to bring them back. Out of everyone mentioned in the video, this leaves us with only four options for Avengers: Endgame. Hulk has previously worn two gauntlets in the comics; Captain America was chosen to wear one on another occasion; Iron Man used it momentarily; and Nebula took it in The Infinity Gauntlet storyline to undo Thanos’ original snap.
It would not be surprising if directors Anthony and Joe Russo used any of these moments as inspiration for Avengers: Endgame, or they could shock audiences again by going in a different direction. And as for the rest of the heroes, maybe they’ll get a chance to wear the Infinity Gauntlet on the big screen in future MCU stories.
