Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to return as hosts of the 2021 Golden Globes

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler to return as hosts of the 2021 Golden Globes… after Ricky Gervais steps aside

The 2020 Golden Globes took place less than a week ago with Ricky Gervais hosting for the fifth and final time. 

And the Television Critics Association has now announced that Amy Poehler and Tina Fey will return as hosts in 2021 for the forth time. 

NBC Entertainment Chairman, Paul Telegdy, couldn’t help but share the news on Saturday at NBCUniveral press tour.

‘NBC has long been the home to two of the funniest people on the planet — Tina Fey and Amy Poehler — and we didn’t want to wait any longer to share the great news that they’ll be hosting the Globes once again,’ he said. 

Tina and Amy last hosted the Golden Globes together back in 2015. At the time, they said it would be the last time they would be hosting the awards. 

President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Lorenzo Soria, also confirmed the happy news on Saturday.

‘There’s no denying that Tina and Amy’s comedic chemistry is infectious. We can’t wait to see the dynamic duo return to the Golden Globes stage,’ he said.  

President of Dick Clark Productions, Amy Thurlow, also concurred, saying the duo had provided viewers with ‘memorable memories’ in the past. 

‘Tina and Amy have provided Golden Globes viewers with some of the most memorable moments the show has ever seen. We’re thrilled to welcome them back in 2021,’ she said.  

The first Golden Globes took place back in 1944 but it wasn’t until 1995, 52 years later, that they opted for a host.

John Larroqueete and Janine Turner hosted the ceremony as a one off and then the show went hostless yet again until 2009. 

2010 had Ricky Gervais take the stage and return in 2011 as well. 

Tina and Amy took over in 2012, 2013 and 2014. 

2015 Ricky returned for his fourth time hosting and was followed by fellow comedians Jimmy Fallon in 2016 and Seth Meyers in 2017.

2018 saw Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg host before Ricky returned for the fifth time in 2020. 

While the date of the ceremony and nominees are yet to come, Amy and Tina will host the 2021 Golden Globes, which kicks off award season. 

The upcoming Oscars will once again go without a host for the second time this year. 

Amy and Tina were joined by fellow former SNL star Maya Rudolph to present the first award in 2019 – acting as a the fill in host.  

Other than SNL, Amy and Tina have starred opposite each other in Mean Girls, Sisters and Baby Mama, among others.
